The 5pm – 5pm Job
With so many employees working from home on a permanent or temporary basis, they are having greater challenges with work/life balance without even stepping out of the house.
The issue comes from management’s failure to set clear policies and training on working from home. Research done by the BT Group has found that even though 8 out of 10 companies in the U.K. invest heavily in mobile technology, only 4 out of 10 train their employees and set “working from home” policies and only a third monitor the effects of this new work environment. This is an issue because these forms of technology do not ensure satisfaction and freedom in one’s life, but creates a 24/7 job. Employees need training and guidelines in order to manage their work/life balance when working from home. With the future of technology about to get much more advanced, the future of our employees is not a bright one. With people able to access work from anywhere, work may just never seem to end and the 9- 5 job will be history in the professional world.
